A new championship series for electric cars has been asked for by the European Commission with the Formula One’s governing body in charge. A new electric car, go-kart and single-seater racing series is being worked towards says FIA president Jean Todt.
The series is wanted as soon as possible Todt told the Financial Times and added that as early as 2013 could be the inaugural season for racing electric cars and we hope to race as much as we can all over the world.
The European Union’s industry commissioner Antonio Tajani and Todt have discussed the new idea at length and the commissioner wants EU members to increase public usage of the electric cars. The F1 teams and strategies of embracing hybrid and electronic technology fits perfect with Todt’s idea but it is believed that there is resistance from the sport’s king, Bernie Ecclestone.
