Peugeot’s iOn is the winner of the 2010 Green Steering Wheel. This is an award given to the car with the lowest environmental impact. It is part of the famous German Golden Steering Wheel, given out every year by Axel Springer press for the past 34 years; the iOn is a totally electric vehicle,
The Green Steering Wheel award was instigated back in 2007 and the winner is chosen from a list developed by the readers of Bild am Sonntag, which is the number one selling Sunday paper in Europe, and readers of the magazine, Auto Bild.
The Peugeot had to fend off twenty other environmentally friendly contenders in order to win. This is the third German award the iOn has received. The final decision for the Green Steering Wheel award is made by a board composed of environmental and automotive experts chosen by Germany’s Environment Minister.
The panel has sole discretion to choose a winner among seven finalists.
It is quite a prestigious accolade for any low emissions vehicle manufacturer and certainly a viable marketing tool. Don’t be surprised if we soon begin seeing commercials for the iOn touting its 2010 Green Steering Wheel award, as well we should.
