Tokyo Motor Show looks into the future

The Tokyo Motor Show is one of the most famous shows of its kind in the world and is held in the capital city of Japan. It has always existed somewhere in between the past and the future and this latest show for 2011 is going to be looking much more into the future of motoring rather than into the past.

There are going to be a very large number of concept vehicles at the show and one of the main themes is around personal mobility. Many people at the show have been very impressed with the number of very cool personal mobility gadgets at the show. Many people are coming to believe that walking for long distances is going to become a thing of the past as people find easier ways to get around.

The devices that are on display at the show are environmentally friendly and very functional. Most of them also look very good and can be test driven at the show. One of the devices that is proving most popular is from Toyota and is called the Winglet. This is a robot that you stand on and it will move you around at around 6 km an hour, what is very impressive is the amount of time it takes to charge the battery as this is only one hour.

The sportiest version of the device allows you to control the direction it heads by simply leaning your upper body, there is no need to use your hands. The device only ways 10 kg and can be folded away very easily, it has improved performance however which means that it can only travel 5 km before it needs to be recharged. The other models in the range weigh slightly more but they can travel up to 10 km.
